(ACI) is an international business consulting company based in Afghanistan with offices in Canada that focuses on enabling unique business solutions for emerging and developing market sectors. ACI provides a wide range of services for its Afghan and international clients including business management, strategic partnership development, proposal writing, supply chain management and recruiting.
Since 2007, ACI has delivered $400M USD dollars worth of projects to its clients. ACI has worked with over 70 Afghan companies, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the Government of Afghanistan, the Canadian Embassy in Kabul, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Aga Khan Foundation, U.S coalition forces, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Afghanistan International Bank (AIB). Steve Appleton, Founder and President
Steve Appleton is the President and CEO of Appleton. Steve retired from the Canadian Army as a senior Colonel in 2005 after 27 years of service and tours in Sarajevo, Iraq and Afghanistan. He joined the firm of ATCO-Frontec in March 2005 as Project Manager and the United Nations Office of Project Services as Program Manager for the $400M USD Road Reconstruction Program in Afghanistan. Steve helped to establish the USAID-UNOPS Community Development Strategy, which was recognized by the Ministry of Public Works in January 2007 as the focal point for long-term road sustainability. In concert with the Aga Khan Foundation and ING, he helped to introduce credit financing for Afghan companies.
Steve has worked with representatives of NATO, the U.S. Department of Defence, the U.S. and Canadian embassies, USAID, GoA, the United Nations, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Louis Berger Group, Aga Khan Foundation, Japan International Cooperation Agency, ING and other organizations in Afghanistan. Steve is focused on attracting international business interests to collaborate with Afghan companies on opportunities in many sectors. Steve graduated with degrees in Civil Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada, an MBA from the University of Ottawa and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, all with honors.
Moslem Mehrdad – Regional Director, Central Asia
Moslem Mehrdad is the Regional Director of Appleton. Moslem was appointed Regional Director in 2013, after being appointed Managing Director in 2009. As a result of his management and leadership, Appleton clients’ awarded revenue has increased by over $90 million USD. As Regional Director, Moslem has extensive management experience, including vertical and horizontal construction projects. Moslem first began working alongside Appleton founder Stephen Appleton when he was a Lead Proposal Writer and subsequently Chief Technical Officer for an Afghan construction and engineering company; together, their work was instrumental in growing the Afghan company into a prime contractor with the US Government. Moslem is certified in Primavera P6 construction scheduling and a Primavera Contract Manager. He has scheduled over $200M USD worth of projects at this point in his career. He oversees a consulting staff of 15 personnel based in Kabul and will be opening a regional Appleton office in Kazakstan. Moslem graduated from Herat University with a Civil Engineering degree.
Reza Hossaini – Managing Director
Reza was appointed Chief Engineer in 2011, where he has overseen and led the design and planning for the New Kabul City, worked on major residential housing projects on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Government, and developing young engineers. He was appointed Managing Director in 2013. Reza has occupied various leadership and management positions since 2000, having worked for several years in remote and risky areas such as Badgis, Farah, Kandahar, Ghor and Kunar Provinces. Reza has worked with international and national organizations for over 12 years in construction management, quality control, quality assurance, safety, logistics, procurement, and site assessment.
He has also been instrumental in leading emergency and quick impact projects in challenging areas. In the past few years, Reza has specialized in preparing pre-construction plans for vertical and horizontal projects in the functional areas of quality control and safety, construction management, procurement and logistics, area use planning, and commissioning plans. Reza graduated from Herat University with a Civil Engineering degree.
